HARVEST FESTIVAL UPDATES
2009

Harvest Festival Nairobi, Kenya

1

In his opening remarks, Pastor Reuben Kyule (A friend of World Harvest in Nairobi, Kenya) said that “Harvest Festival was the best way to begin the year.” This was the second Harvest Festival being held in Kenya. The leadership seminar drew business professionals and church leaders from all over the country, and as far as Tanzania!

Mr. Hanafi encouraged the attendees to be the agents of change for their communities. He talked about how much is being done through World Harvest’s efforts in Indonesia, and presented effective models that could be adapted contextually to the work that needs to be done in Kenya.

World Harvest looks forward to cultivating their relationship with local leaders such as Pastor Kyule, in order to further extend our hand toward making a difference.

Harvest Festival Uganda

In January 2009, Mr. Hanafi accompanied by Mr. Franky Lumingkewas, World Harvest’s partner from Seattle, WA visited the city of Hoima, Kyenjojo and Kamuli in Uganda, and conduct the Harvest Festival seminar to build and empower the community and church leaders there, with topics in Qualities of Leadership; exhorting the church leaders to be people of integrity, as it’s one of the main key to influence their society. In Kyenjojo, Mr. Hanafi also met with a member of parliament of the Republic of Uganda, who acknowledged the impact of Harvest Festival.

Harvest Festival Nigeria

Harvest Festival in Nigeria was conducted for the very first time by World Harvest in March 2009 for four consecutive days in the city of Lagos and Warri. Mr. Danny Hanafi, teaming up with Mr. Harminto Ongko, World Harvest’s partner along with Pastors Ndjoli Iyanga from Uganda gave leadership seminars to over 500 participants who came from all over the places, and as far as the neighboring country of Ghana. The seminar topics that are covered include topics on Faith, Maximum Impact in Economy, and Becoming a High Impact People. Mr. Hanafi empowered the participants with leadership values, and exhorted them to step up to become agents of change in order to see transformation in its society. The seminar was concluded with a strong message: “You are the hope of Nigeria. You are the ones that have the answers for the problems that happen in your country. It is why God places you here.”

Harvest Festival Sierra Leone

During the month of March, 2009, World Harvest successfully organized the 2nd Harvest Festival ever held in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Daily Leadership seminars were conducted in two cities: Konno and Freetown in Sierra Leone. The team included Mr. Daniel Hanafi, along with World Harvest partners and supporters from the USA; Mr. Harminto Ongko, Mr. Ching Ming Lie, Mr. Keith Steven Muljadi, and Miss Lynnn Pelton. This year, we held the first Harvest Festival in the Kono District, which was the center of the conflict during the war. The district itself, pre-war, contributed roughly about 50% of the country’s GDP production. Although it was prosperous before, this area is one of the most if not the poorest district in Sierra Leone.

Harvest Festival in Kono and Freetown had banded the different churches and groups there to unite together to plan the event to bless the whole district. Over 200 participants ranging from the military, ministers, and community and business leaders had participated in the Harvest Festival. Participants were challenged to become agents of transformation in their society. They were exhorted to rise up to the challenges that are set before them, to see through the total transformation of Sierra Leone. Many participants experienced that there was a sense of refocused purpose and empowerment upon the important thing at hand, which is to become the solution that the nation of Sierra Leone has been asking for.

Mr. Keith Muljadi, one of the team member and World Harvest’s partner, gave a remark upon the return of the trip from Harvest Festival in Sierra Leone: “In a place where oppression, corruptions, and destruction are the norm instead of the exception, I believed that in years to come, these communities will be marked as the place where hope, prosperity, and restoration thrives because there were some who believed it, some who lived it – the calling of God. Now the seeds had been planted, and watered. In time, we will see growth and its fruits. For our faithful partners, you made that decision to make a difference. May you are comforted to know that everything you have invested into this, are yielding its dividends that will last for many years to come.”

World Harvest is committed to constantly strive to build and empower leaders, in order to become an agent of transformation in the global community.
